Episode 49: Lisa Answers Listeners’ Questions
This is the next episode of “Ask Lisa,” the focus of the show every second week of the month, when I answer listeners’ career transition questions.
The topics include how much work experience to put on your résumé, how many job changes are too many, tips for virtual interviews with a software/bot and not a live human, and how to handle the overqualification interview question.
KKNW producer Eric and I also exchange reactions to these questions and I share the week’s “Reignition Recommendation,” a tip of the week for mid-late career transitions regardless of your age.
[00:26] Welcome to Reigniting You® where we talk all things career transition for those age 40+. Great to be with you today and our producer, Eric.
[00:52] It’s the second week of the month, so that means it’s time for our “Ask Lisa” episode. I’ll be answering listeners’ career transition questions by providing a few tips.
[03:10] First question from Angie – how much is too much information to put on a résumé when you have a lot of experience?
[03:23] Keep it to 15 years unless you have relevant older experience in the role/specific area of expertise that aligns well with the job description.
[06:11] Next question from Vivek – At what point is many career or job changes too many for employers to want to hire you?
[06:28] Generally accepted to change jobs many times, though at some point it starts doing damage – no magic number – depends on if you’re in the same overall industry or not.

[17:16] Next question from Renata – what tips do you have for doing virtual interviews on one of these platforms with timed responses and no people interaction?
[17:27] Test and practice ahead of time; eliminate distractions; have a good background; watch eye contact.
[21:10] Next question from Cathy – how do you handle it when a prospective employer mentions that you’re overqualified?
[21:25] Focus on the type of experience you’re looking for and how your expertise fits with the role and organization.
[25:42] Reminder for listeners to email or leave a voicemail at 360-436-6496 to ask their career transition questions for the second week of October.
[26:09] “Reignition Recommendation” for the week – take steady action with good self-discipline.
